<image:caption>Sublette County residents know her as “their” nurse practitioner who worked intermittently over the last five decades in both the Marbleton-Big Piney and Pinedale Medical Clinics providing health care to whomever arrived at the clinic; during the clinic day or at night when urgent needs arose. In the “early days” it was a shared practice with Dr. Johnston ~ every-other-night on-call and every-other weekend on-call. It was a brutal schedule. The community grew. The local community’s health care needs grew. The level of technology and interventions far outpaced what could be delivered locally however over the decades, the health care acuities for care have far surpassed other communities yet the level of services provided by the professional staff at the clinics remains stalwart. What you may not know is when Leslie disappeared from Sublette County, her professional path took her back to school or off an a locum-tenens assignment. She is proud that she has provided patient care to individuals on every continent. She has flown, sailed, ridden, walked and climbed to many destinations: from isolated clinics in the Aleutian archipelago to your federal research facility at the geographic South Pole. She has mentored nurses in rural Thailand and taught faculty workshops in bare-bulb classrooms off the crowded streets in Jakarta. She has tried to make a difference in the muck and melancholy of the mighty Mekong while mentoring the next generation of nurse practitioners from Yale and Duke Universities to small town community colleges. Leslie earned her diploma in nursing from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, completed her Masters in Nursing at Duke University and her Doctorate in Nursing at the University of Utah. Leslie retired from her active clinic practice two years ago however remains active doing high-altitude research, teaching and volunteering in various capacities while managing her family’s ranch three miles south of Pinedale. Leslie is proud to be a volunteer board member of the Sublette County Health Foundation and is committed to the Critical Access Hospital and Nursing Home while looking forward to bringing her life-time of healthcare experiences to the board.</image:caption>

Joan was a passionate supporter of the hospital project from the very beginning. She served on the Sublette County Health Foundation board since its inception. She also organized the Foundation’s first fundraiser, “Boots and Scrubs”. Always full of energy, Joan could usually be found behind her camera lens taking photos of events and sports all over the state. Joan loved supporting the kids and wanted the parents to be able to watch and have memories of their kids instead of watching them through a lens. Joan had two sons and five grandchildren who were the light of her life. Joan’s legacy, both as Director of the Southwest Sublette County Pioneers Senior Citizen Center for 20 years and her passion to improve healthcare for Sublette County will be remembered.
